How to Find Your Public and Local IP Address on Any Device

Step-by-step instructions to check your public internet IP address and your device's local LAN IP across Android, Windows, macOS, iOS, and Linux.

Part 1: Checking Your Public Internet IP Address (WAN)

Because your router or carrier gateway performs Network Address Translation (NAT), your phone or computer's operating system settings often only know your local private IP (such as 192.168.1.12). The fastest way to see your true outbound public IP is to ask an external server:

Part 2: Checking Your Device's Local (Private / LAN) IP by Operating System

Android (13 / 14 / 15)

  1. Open Settings → Network & internet (or Connections on Samsung/OnePlus) → Internet / Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the gear icon next to your active Wi-Fi network and scroll down to IP address & IPv6 addresses.
  3. For Mobile Data (4G/5G): Open Settings → About phone → Status information → IP address.

Windows 11 / Windows 10

  1. Open Settings → Network & internet → Wi-Fi (or Ethernet) and click your connected network properties.
  2. Scroll to IPv4 address, IPv6 address, and IPv4 DNS servers.

$ ipconfig /all

macOS (Sonoma / Sequoia)

  1. Open System Settings → Wi-Fi → click Details next to your connected Wi-Fi network → select TCP/IP.
  2. Terminal method: run ipconfig getifaddr en0 for your primary Wi-Fi interface.
$ ifconfig en0 | grep inet

iPhone & iPad (iOS / iPadOS)

  1. Open Settings → Wi-Fi and tap the blue info (i) button next to your connected Wi-Fi network.
  2. Under IPV4 ADDRESS, view your local IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Router gateway.

  1. Use the modern iproute2 utility in your terminal to list all local IPv4 and IPv6 interface assignments.
$ ip -br addr show
