How to Interpret an IP Intelligence Report

When you enter an IP address into this tool, the server first validates its syntax and checks the IANA Special-Purpose Address Registry. If the address belongs to a private LAN block (192.168.0.0/16, 10.0.0.0/8) or the shared Carrier-Grade NAT block (100.64.0.0/10), it is non-routable on the public internet and has no public geographic location.

For globally routable public addresses, the report combines Autonomous System metadata and Regional Internet Registry (RDAP) allocation records. Country-level assignments are highly reliable because IP blocks are delegated through regional registries such as APNIC for India. However, city or telecom-circle estimates reflect where the ISP registers its core routing gateway—often Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, or Hyderabad—not the physical street where a subscriber device is located.

What an IP Lookup Cannot Reveal

  • No subscriber identity: Public RDAP and IP intelligence databases never store customer names, phone numbers, Aadhaar/KYC records, or billing addresses.
  • No GPS coordinates: Any coordinate in a commercial IP database is only the geographic center of a city or postal region, never a real-time GPS fix.
  • No unverified VPN claims: Unlike tools that guess VPN status from hosting ranges, we only display fields actually verified by the active data source.

Frequently Asked Questions

Concise answers verified against IANA, APNIC, and IETF protocol standards

How do I look up the owner and location of an IPv4 or IPv6 address?

Enter any valid IPv4 or IPv6 address into the IP Address Lookup bar. The tool validates syntax against IANA special-purpose ranges, queries IP intelligence for country/ISP/ASN, and cross-checks RIR RDAP allocation records.

Why do private IP addresses like 192.168.1.1 or 100.64.0.1 show no geolocation?

Addresses in 192.168.0.0/16 (RFC 1918 private LAN) and 100.64.0.0/10 (RFC 6598 CGNAT) are reserved for internal or carrier-shared use on millions of networks worldwide and have no unique geographic location.

Which Regional Internet Registry (RIR) manages IP addresses in India?

APNIC (Asia-Pacific Network Information Centre), alongside IRINN (Indian Registry for Internet Names and Numbers), allocates and registers IPv4, IPv6, and ASN resources for Indian ISPs and enterprises.
